Shrimp Info
Neocaridina and Caridina dwarf shrimp are popular in the aquarium hobby, but they have different care requirements:
Our selection of Dwarf Crayfish have the same Requirments of Neocaridina Dawrf Shrimp
Water Parameters:
Neocaridina: These shrimp are generally hardier and can tolerate a wider range of water parameters. They thrive in a pH range of 7 to 8.0, a temperature range of 18-28°C (64-82°F), and a range of water hardness.
Caridina: These shrimp are more sensitive and require more stable conditions. They often prefer a lower pH (around 5-6) and specific temperature ranges, typically between 20-22°C (69-72°F). They also need softer, low-TDS (total dissolved solids) water.
Tank Setup:
Neocaridina: They adapt well to a variety of setups and can live in tanks with more general filtration and substrates. They do well in both planted and unplanted tanks.
Caridina: They often require more specific setups, such as a well-maintained aquarium with precise filtration and often a mineral-rich and active substrate to maintain their preferred water chemistry.
Diet:
Neocaridina: They are less demanding in terms of diet and will eat a range of foods including algae, commercial shrimp pellets, and blanched vegetables.
Caridina: They may need a more specialized diet, including high-quality shrimp foods designed for their nutritional needs, as they are often more sensitive to diet changes.
Breeding:
Neocaridina: Breeding is generally easier with Neocaridina. They are capable of reproducing in a broader range of water conditions and the larvae are fully formed when they hatch, making them less sensitive to water changes.
Caridina: Breeding Caridina shrimp can be more challenging due to their specific water parameter requirements. Their larvae are planktonic and require very specific conditions to survive and grow.
Overall, Neocaridina shrimp are usually recommended for beginners due to their adaptability, while Caridina shrimp are often favored by more experienced aquarists who can provide the precise conditions they need.
